Dialogue Assignment

We had a lesson this week on using dialogue in our writing.  The assignment was to write a paragraph using dialogue.  This one is LB's.  I especially like her sentence structure....

Jeff's stomach growled for the eighth time that morning. He glanced at the clock, and hesitantly raised his hand. "Mrs. Wrong? Is it almost time for lunch?" He asked, realizing too late that he had interrupted her mid-sentence. Mrs. Wrong turned and glared at him from underneath her giant pink heart-shaped glasses.

"Lunch?" She spluttered angrily. "Lunch? You just got here! Lunch is in..." She glanced at the clock, clearly anticipating his reaction at having to stay for two more hours. Her sneer, however, quickly vanished as she realized that she had been lecturing them for three hours. "Lunch is in two minutes." She mumbled sourly, daring anyone with her eyes to have even a wisp of a smile.

Her students, having learned their lesson long ago, and not wanting to miss lunch, quickly wiped any traces of amusement off their faces. The two minutes seemed to take forever to Jeff, but when they ended, he was the first one out the door.
